| Today enjoy the Thimphu Tsechus, one of the religious festivals of Bhutan to admire the great deeds of Guru Padsambhava also known as Guru Rinpoche. Festivals are the occasion for dances that are purely defined in religious content. Dancers in brilliant silk costumes re-enact legendary events, accompanied by blaring horns, booming drums and clashing cymbals as they whirl and leap against a background of sky and mountains. | Day 6 Gangtey |
||||||||||||
| The day is available to explore Gangtey village and Phobjikha valley. In the mountains east of Wangduephodrang lies the beautiful Phobjikha valley. On the slopes of which is situated the great monastery of Gangtey, established in the 17th century. The village of Phobjikha lies a few miles down from the monastery, on the valley floor. This quite, remote valley is the winter home of black necked cranes, which migrate from the arid plains of Tibet in the north, to pass the winter months in a milder climate. (Amankora Gangtey) |
